Sadie and her friends Alex and Brian are in college in Boston and are looking forward to spring break. They really want to do something fun this year.

Illo1-02

Sadie suggests that they go skiing in Vermont, but then realizes that the trip could be pricey.

Illo2-02

The group takes a moment to figure out the most cost-effective itinerary, including travel, lodging, food, and equipment, as well as possible personal expenses.

Illo3.5-02

After doing a little research, the group decides to take a round trip to Vermont via bus. They will ski at a well-known, mid-range ski resort which will provide equipment. They would like to take a group photo on the slopes. They will individually put aside money for any snacks during the day.

Illo4-02

The group decides to use SpendShare, a mobile app that allows users to manage and contribute to group budgets responsibly and with ease. This way, Sadie, Alex, and Brian can ensure that they will comfortably reach their goal before spring break.

Illo5-02

Sadie and her friends sign up on SpendShare and complete the onboarding process, which includes connecting to their respective bank accounts and adding in their friends from Facebook and their contacts. This way they can keep track of their budgeting for this trip.

Illo6-02

Sadie creates a new budget called Vermont Ski Trip! and specifies who is responsible for paying what. The group decides to split group activities evenly, and pay for other items individually. For example, Brian already owns ski gear, so he won’t be paying for a rental.

She also adds in the timeline for the trip (she thinks it wise to have the funds ready a week prior to the trip) and the Back Out deadline. Backing out means that anyone from the group can back out of the budget and receive back their contributions until a certain date.

Illo7-02

SpendShare works in partnership with each user's banking app which helps Sadie and her friends round up to the nearest dollar on small purchases to help them reach their goal.

Illo8-02

The budget will also automatically include push notifications, so Sadie, Alex, and Brian can receive regular reminders to carry their weight.

Illo9-02

When the group finally satisfies all their costs, the admin of the budget, Sadie, in this case, will be able to Cash Out. All of the pooled in money will go to her bank account, after which Sadie is responsible for paying for every item on the agenda.

Illo10-02

As planned, Sadie and her friends achieve their goal a week before the trip, allowing Sadie to Cash Out and reserve bus seats, gear, and resort tickets without any rush. Their dreams came true!
