Did you know Mumbai has the second-most surviving Art Deco buildings in the world, following Miami?
In the fall of 2018, I was instructed under professor Doug Scott to rebrand a UNESCO World Heritage Site of my choice. I decided to focus on the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai, a site added to the World Heritage Site list in 2018. My attraction to brand the site was its lack of popularity- Mumbai was home to the second-most surviving Art Deco buildings in the world, following Miami, as well as Victorian Gothic structures central to Mumbai's history. My goal was to showcase this site in an elegant, polished light.
Logo Variations and Fifth Element
The logo was inspired by the geometric Art Deco themes found on letterheads, wallpapers and the like. After a series of experiments with common Indian visuals, like a marigold doubling as a Gothic church window, I focused my attention on more abstract imagery that would evoke either Victorian Gothic or Art Deco themes.
